“Did you know your name is a derogatory name?” he laughed with all of his mates.
“Can you change your name? It’s too hard to pronounce.”
“Can I call you Karen? You look like a Karen.”
She cringed each time. Speechless by the insensitivity. Shocked by how entitled some are to rename others for their convenience.
Our name is part of our identity. To disrespect a person’s name is to disrespect the person. Make an effort to learn a person’s name. It is not that hard.
