He was stood down
It came out of nowhere. He was called in and told that he would be stood down. The business has plummeted and the bottom was still uncertain.
He went all numb and his mind was spinning. All his life, he lived for his job. He loved the adrenaline pumping through his veins in those intense moments. He thrived on the accolades and knew just how good he was. He was on top of his game.
And just like that, he became nothing. Each day now he paced around aimlessly, up and down the house. He has no more purpose. He has shut everyone out, too ashamed to talk to anyone for he feared that they would look at him differently.
A friend stopped by and saw his face in his palms. Lifting his face, she saw despair in his eyes.
This was what she said, “You have a roof over your head and your stomach will not know hunger. You have a loving partner and you have your health. Listen to me, your job is not you and neither is it your self worth. You are more than that and your legacy is what you do for others.”
