Working long hours, a badge of honour?

She worked so very hard. Never said no to anything that was asked of her. And nothing was too difficult or challenging.

She told others of the long hours she pulled like it was a badge of honour. Surely they would soon see how great she was and promotion would be just around the corner.
But it never came. The announcement that it was someone else just gutted her. All that hard work was for nothing.

Buried in her tears, a mentor said to her, “Think of it from the perspective of the business. Promote someone who works hard or promote someone that delivers the outcome.

So it is not the hours you put in that you should be crowing about but it’s about the impact you have delivered that you should be sharing.”
